AI support in research

Artificial intelligence (AI) is playing an increasingly important role in scientific research and publishing. For this reason, the university library aims to support instructors, researchers, and students in the effective and ethical use of AI tools.

This goal is also served by our AI Services Hub, where you can find all AI-related services recommended and managed by the library in one place — offering support from the initial idea through to manuscript submission, and even in clarifying copyright issues.

Research support:

During the research process, AI tools can help you navigate scientific databases, search for information quickly and accurately, and produce summaries to support all stages of the discovery process. The following services are available on subscription to the University:

  • ScopusAI: You can ask questions in natural language, and the service will search the entire Scopus database for useful resources.

  • ProQuest Research Assistant: When you open an article in the ProQuest database, the AI Research Assistant appears next to the article, summarising the article, highlighting the most important information and recommending similar articles.

  • Statista Research AI: You can search for statistical data in natural language. The answer includes a textual summary of the statistical data and a list of the data sets used.

  • JSTOR Research Tool: It is especially useful in the humanities and social sciences. After registration and login, when opening any article, the Research Tool (beta version for the moment) appears on the right-hand side, offering recommendations for similar articles and related topics. Oxford AI Discovery Assistant: It has a humanities and social science focus. After registration and login, the site lists 10 relevant resources for the question asked, with a short summary. You can further refine the questions to get more resources.

If you have any questions about the tools available or would like to know more about the databases managed by the library and the AI tools that go with them, please contact our colleagues.

Publication support

Our university has purchased several AI tools that can help improve language quality, check plagiarism and prepare manuscripts. These programs are able to offer language, structure and style suggestions, check for plagiarism and AI-generated text, and produce a compliance report for the requirements of the chosen journal.

  • Paperpal: an artificial intelligence-assisted writing tool specifically designed for writing and editing scientific texts.

  • Turnitina plagiarism filtering service specifically designed to check student papers.

AI guidelines of publishers

The leading international publishers follow similar guidelines for the use of AI in manuscript preparation, but there are minor differences in their positions.

On this page, we have compiled the AI policies and guidelines of publishers contracted by the University. You can view these by clicking on the name of the publisher.

If you are interested in other publishers' AI policies for publishing, please contact our colleagues, who will be happy to help you find and understand these for additional non-contracted publishers.

Our colleagues can be reached at authorsupport@lib.pte.hu or by phone at (72) 501-600/28069.

AI user guides

The Library's staff have created tutorials for several AI services (available to university citizens or faculty), describing both the use of the tool and their own experiences. These can be accessed on the library's research support blog or via the links below:

For legal guidance on AI issues

If you are unsure about copyright or data protection, if you have questions about the authorship of AI-generated content, or if you need help interpreting the terms of licensing and use, please contact our legal experts at authorsupport@lib.pte.hu.
